Deep Clean vs Standard Clean: Which Does Your Home Actually Need?
If you've never had a professional clean before, start here. We break down the real difference — and how to tell which one fits your situation.
It’s the most common question we get on quote calls: “Do I need a deep clean or just a regular one?” The honest answer is that it depends on when your home was last professionally cleaned — and on what “clean” feels like to you.
Standard cleaning is maintenance
A standard clean is what keeps an already-clean home feeling fresh. We dust, vacuum, mop, sanitize bathrooms, wipe down kitchen surfaces, and pay attention to the details — switches, handles, skirting boards. It’s the right choice for a home that’s been professionally cleaned in the last six weeks.
Deep cleaning is a reset
A deep clean tackles the buildup a standard clean doesn’t reach: inside the oven and microwave, behind the fridge, descaling taps and shower screens, scrubbing tile grout, baseboards, vents, ceiling fans, light fixtures. It takes roughly twice as long as a standard clean, and the difference is dramatic — most clients describe it as “the house feels like it’s just been built.”
A simple rule of thumb
If any of these are true, start with a deep clean:
- It’s been more than two months since a professional clean
- You’re moving in or out of a property
- You’ve had a renovation or construction work done
- Allergies have been worse than usual at home
- You can’t remember the last time the oven was cleaned
After a deep clean, most of our clients move onto a recurring plan — weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly — to maintain the result.
